A Message from our Executive Director on recent organizational changes

November 19, 2018 Dear Members,Colleagues, and Friends, It’s a reflective time of year. A time when we contemplate all that we are grateful for and think about what has filled us with inspiration and hope this past year. Here at Violence Free Colorado, we have been thinking about our Members, and how thankful we are for the programs and individuals who are daily making a difference in the lives of those impacted by relationship violence.

2018 Purple Ribbon Awards!

Each year, Violence Free Colorado recognizes and promotes excellence in domestic violence victim advocacy throughout Colorado by presenting to outstanding individuals and organizations a Purple Ribbon Award. This year, we honored: Emily Osan of the San Miguel Resource Center as the Outstanding Domestic Violence Victim Advocate Flora Archuleta of San Luis Valley Immigrant Resource Center as the Outstanding Leadership in Victim Advocacy Pam Maass of the Gold Law Firm as the Outstanding Community Ally Alliance

Check out Violence Free Colorado’s newest OLC Courses: Survivors with Disabilities This course is an introduction to working with Survivors with disabilities who have or are experiencing domestic violence. It is a broad overview which should lead to a basic understanding of working with Survivors with disabilities. The course provides an overview of the many community resources available to assist you and Survivors and prepares you to dig deeper into this area of your advocacy

Check out Violence Free Colorado’s newest OLC Courses: Introduction to LGBTQ Domestic Violence This course begins with the basics of working with LGBTQ Survivors. It includes a discussion about terminology and the every-changing use of language. It provides an overview of domestic violence in LGBTQ relationships and a glimpse at the challenges Survivors face. Domestic Violence and the Holidays

The Question: Does domestic violence increase during the winter holiday season(the time period beginning the week of Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day)? The Answer: No The holidays can be stressful, but domestic violence is not caused by stress. It is caused by the choice of one partner to control and dominate the other.
