Committees

CCADV committees are a wonderful way to get involved on a statewide level in the work ending domestic violence. As a member-driven coalition it is critical to have diverse voices from all geographic areas of Colorado participating on committees. This helps ensure that the work of the Coalition is reflective of the needs and issues facing Colorado.

CHILDREN'S ADVOCACY COMMITTEE

This committee's purpose is to ensure equitable, quality services to children and adolescents who have witnessed and experienced domestic violence, and to provide a powerful voice to those who advocate on behalf of children and adolescents. The committee provides education to adults and children regarding the effects of domestic violence on child witnesses and victims, acts as the Colorado clearinghouse for information regarding the effects of domestic violence on child witnesses and victims, addresses issues concerning non-violent parenting and coordinates statewide efforts to enhance children's program development and creativity in battered women's agencies. This committee meets monthly.

Primarily this is accomplished through speaking engagements and special projects. This group specifically addresses the issues of formerly battered women, including victimization, empowerment, and life after battering. Part of the mission of this committee is to promote the inclusion of formerly battered women as shelter workers, shelter directors, shelter board members, and community speakers and advocates. This group also plans an annual event each October in Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This committee meets monthly.
